The ice has been broken, Japan have shown that they mean business by beating Russia in the opening game…lets hope they can keep that momentum going.
Next up was the Aussies taking on Fiji……the mountainous men of the Fijian Island were ready to bring the physicality and pummel Australia.
They were doing good in the first half where they led going into the second half 2 points up….(14 Fiji – 12 Australia Half-Time)
The game was still in the balance and The Aussies tipped the scales in the second half to record their biggest comeback in Rugby World Cup history, overcoming a 9 point deficit to beat Fiji 39 – 21.
Next up was Los Pumas (Argentina) taking on the Les Bleus (France)…it looked like the French popped the champagne cork early as they went into the second half with a convincing 17 point lead (20 France – 03 Argentina).
The Pumas never say die attitude made this a scintillating game of rugby as the comeback was on and they almost won in the end but the French could breath easy as the final whistle was blown with a 2 point win. (FT: 23-21)
The last game of the morning (yip in South Africa we started the braai early…dis net braaivleis en biere as die Bokke speel moet ons keel nat wees), it was the game we were all waiting for The All Blacks vs The Bokke.
New Zealand showed intent after an intimidating haka laying down the challenge to South Africa infront of 70 000 fans, they dominated the first half creating gaps and quick offloads, the Bokke offence were struggling to break the line and convert the points.
A better second half performance from The Bokke made our hearts pump that green and gold blood abit faster but in the end New Zealand took the win). (Final score: NZL 23 RSA 13)
We have seen The World Champs play, are they ready to defend the title??
