Tempest Toss

The stage was set for the Confederations Cup Final. Would it be Chile or Germany lifting the trophy?

Russia hosted an awesome tournament I think this was a great setting for next year….just a few hiccups with the new VAR system but I think it will be cool to book my flight to Russia next year. (anyone reading this and want to be my sponsor you are welcome.)

Ok fine enough of the desperation, before we got to the all important final it was Portugal vs Mexico for the 3rd/4th place playoff.

Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo did not play in the third place playoff after leaving the camp to visit his new born twins.

Even without their Captain Fantastic Portugal managed to put a smile on his and the newborn twins faces by taking third place in the 2017 Confederations Cup Final.

After a goalless firsthalf and a Mexican goal in the second half it looked like a win but very late goal from Pepe levels the scores and sent the tie into extra-time!

Adrien Silva’s extra-time penalty earned Portugal the win over Mexico.

Finally we got to the moment we all been waiting for the Final…Germany vs Chile.

Claudio Bravo was the hero for Chile in the #ConfedCup semi-finals, saving all 3 penalties that he faced. Will he be a match winner today?

Again I was rooting for the underdogs in this case Chile but I think this is bad luck because a loss in concentration in defencr cost them dearly after piling on the pressure looking likely to score first.

Lars Stindl’s goal from a defensive error gave Germany the lead over Chile in the final.

The game was exciting heating up the cool air in Russia but it was not Alexis Sanchez night, the South American tempers were flaring with a couple of disruptions on the pitch. This however was expected in a Final emotions are bound to creep into such an important match.

GERMANY TAKE IT!

The World Champions win their first ever #ConfedCup title, beating Chile 1-0 in the final. #CHIGER https://t.co/tTTIZ1iyB3

They had an awesome tournament and are well deserved Champions of their first Confederations Cup.
