The thing about inaugaral events are that whatever happens you are a part of history in the making…

This past weekend saw the launch of the Cape Town Sixes – Cricket and Culture Festival. Sport, Food, Awesome local Live music and ofcourse Cricket were all on offer with Table Mountain and Cape Town Stadium in the background this was 2 days of pure entertainment.

Seven different leagues, from the Corporate league, Future Stars U13 and U17 to the Social League where some teams were just there for the beer yip there was something for every fitness level.

The spectators were spoilt for choice in terms of where they wanted to watch the games, imagine travelling to some of the worlds greatest cricket pitches in two days…at the Cape Town Sixes your dreams can come true. Stadiums like Eden Park, MCG, the Bullring and…

..were all within walking distance from each other, that is super cool right!!

The food village had a variety of good food from some of the greatest cricket nations for you to sample….a samoosa from India sounds good to me while downing a beer from South Africa.

Another highlight of the festival was seeing some of South Africa’s cricket legends live, giving back to the youngster with coaching clinics and signing autographs.

Robin Petersen and Alan Donald showed off their skills with the bat and ball against one of the corporate league teams, being bowled out by a legend like Alan Donald would be an honour hahaha.

Once all the cricket was done and dusted and prizes were handed out, a sunset concert ended off a fantastic weekend. Rory Elliot kicked off proceedings with some mellow beats easing us into a beautiful Cape Town sunset…

Jimmy Nevis got us to our feet taking us back to his roots with 7764 blessing us with a little drizzle but in pure Cape Town style we continued to party as The Kiffnes and Mango Groove ended the night off in style.

Many sixes were hit, run outs and awesome catches were made…the sore muscles the next day was all worth it as the players knew that they were a part of making history.

See you next year!!!
