Colourful Kickstart

Still feeling the joy from The Color Run this past weekend in Cape Town?

You’ll be be pleased to know that through your participation The Color Run and Capitec brought happiness to Atlantis.

The Cape Town leg of The Color Run series held this past weekend, dubbed The happiest 5K on the planet brought joy to the participants but most importantly it brings new opportunities and hopes for better education to the learners at Atlantis High School.

Headline sponsor Capitec Bank, shares The Color Run’s passion for social upliftment and will donate R 10 from each ticket sold to the school for much-needed resources. For Cape Town, the funds raised will be used to assist with educator development and school based support in mathematics, science and business studies.

Says Capitec Bank spokesperson Charl Nel: “We chose the Atlantis High School from the list of schools provided by the Adopt-A-School foundation. Their need for educator development and school based support in mathematics, science and business studies are in line with what Capitec works to achieve through their CSI. They believe that this will lead to an improved matric pass rate, and in turn, job creation and economic growth, as a result supporting communities in which we serve. Capitec and The Color Run were able to raise R 100 000 for Atlantis High School.”

Atlantis High School caters for 1600 children from the surrounding communities. The learners generally come from impoverished backgrounds and need a lot of support. “We have a wonderful teaching complement of passionate and hardworking educators. The support from Adopt-a-School Foundation and other partners is so important – as it provides us with the critical resources to give our learners a proper education in an environment that is conducive to excellent teaching and learning”, says Principal Charles Marthinussen.

To add an extra fun element and raise awareness for the partnership a giant tackie sculpture, built out of 100% recyclable mild steel, was created by well-known Durban artist Andries Botha.  250 colourful soccer balls were displayed inside and participants were allowed to engage and take pictures with the shoe and freestyle ball kickers provided entertainment with their excellent skill.

These balls will be distributed between all the recipient schools after the completion of The Color Run series.

The Color Run is the largest 5km event series in the world. During 2014, it hosted more than 300 events in over 50 countries.
