Worlds Apart

We’ve reached the knock-out stage of Rugby World Cup 2015…each game is a do or die encounter. You lose, you out – as simple as that.

The first of the four quarter-final matches was the Springboks up against Wales at Twickenham.

This was the 31st match-up and only the 2nd in a Rugby World, the last meeting at a World Cup was in New Zealand where SA won by 1 point. 17-16 to South Africa.

With those stats we were in for a tightly contested affair, both teams not wanting to lose. It was Wales who had the upper hand in the first half as they scored a try and a drop goal in the last few seconds of the first half  secured a 13 – 12 lead.

There were rumours of Eddie Jones giving the Welsh Dragons tips on how to beat the Springboks, with their defensive efforts they certainly gave the Bokke a run for their money.

In the 68th minute the Welsh defence made100 more tackles  than SA.

Pollard changed his boots in the second have think it was abit to small, I’m sure he needed Biggar boots because his kicking in the second half was lacking – maybe he could do with some moves like Biggar too :-D.

The Bokke were giving us in South Africa a mini heart attack with their no game-plan rugby – van wane af skop Schalk, hy moet net sy kop neer sak of pass man.

It took a super cool move from the scrum in the 75th minute for Du Preez to dive over the line and become not only Captain Fantastic but also a Dragonslayer – Absa Boktown in the Waterfront went wild when the final whistle was blown.

Final score 23 – 19 the Bokke are in the Semi-Finals!!!

The next game felt like I was watching or rather listening to schoolboy rugby – The mighty All Blacks handing out a beating to the French – The french have definitely lost their flair.

I had to listen to the game on the radio, once again our local TV Station do not like the All Blacks…- I realised its hard to listen to Rugby if you not really sure who plays for what team, it was like there was only one player on the field – ek hoor net Parra die en Parra daai en toe aan die einde hoor ek ‘n Kockett but I mistook that for a swear word as New Zealand went over for their 9th Try.

Savea, a hat-trick hero but an all round massive performamce from the All Blacks players , even a prop can give a Sonny Bill Williams offload…this team always seems to amaze me.

Final score 62 – 13…New Zealand will meet The Bokke in the semi-finals, after todays matches it seems these two teams are Worlds Apart.

Who will be triumphant and make it into the Finals of Rugby World Cup 2015?
