12 Rounds

5 years years we have waited it is finally here this will go down in the history books as the fight of the century.

Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather vs Manny ‘Pac-Man’ Pacquiao

The prize: Unified Welterweight Championship Belt

Place: MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas, Nevada.

The hype is real media was a buzz reports from both camps – Would Mayweather retain his unbeaten record or is Pacquiao the man to end the streak.

This fight is the Mohammed Ali vs George Forman of our generation, bigger than Mike Tyson vs The guy who did his tattoo, bigger than Me vs that bully in 10th Grade o_O, bigger than Rocky Balboa vs Himself.

If Mayweather loses it will be bigger than when The Undertaker lost the streak.

3am – 03/05/2015 I tuned in thinking this is it here we go….nope we first had to endure two build up matches before the big fight – cmon who going to remember Lomachenko vs Rodriguez for the Featherweight belt or Santa Cruz vs Cayetano in a 10 round Featherweight bout anyway o_O.

In respect of the athletes these two build-up fights were actually pretty entertaining  Lomachecko rataining his belt with a standout performance against Rodriguez. In round 10 Lomachenko got Rodriquez on his knees for the second time of the night, this was too much for him as he waited out the 10 count to end the match.

The crowd cheered as scenes of the fight of the night arrivals were shown – Pacquiao smiling and jumping around whereas Mayweather more serious with his entourage of BigShows.

In the second pre-lim fight  it was Santa Cruz vs Cayetano a
10 rounds featherweight bout. How Cayetano stood after 10 rounds baffled my mind as Santa Cruz was all over him, beating him up like a punching bag. The only way Cayetano could win that match was through a knockout. You gotta respect him for standing a 30 minute beatdown as Santa Cruz won by unanimous decision.

Finally we have come to the time everyone has been waiting for – even Batman was at the MGM Grand Garden Arena – Christian Bale. Famous faces like Micheal Jordan, Mark Wahlberg, Paris Hilton and Justin Bieber graced our screens as the intensity was felt before the fighters entered the ring. Drew Barrymore probably signalled for ET to come back to earth for this Match. Mike Tyson and Evander Hollyfield sat miles apart as to not take away from the hype of the night o_O.

12 Rounds – Serious ‘Money’ Mayweather vs Smiling selfie taking ‘Pac-Man’ on paper it was Mayweather who looked to take the fight, they say big fights are won before we enter the ring.

After the National Anthems it was round 1 – Both men sussing each other out Mayweather showing off his swiftness.

Pacquiao came to fight and there were a few moments during the match when I thought he was ontop with some good clean stikes to the head of Mayweather. Mayweather is not the Champion for nothing as he fought a good tactical fight making Pacquiao fight at his pace moving around the ring with lightning speed looking for the knockout blow.

After round 4 we had a fight on our hands every clean headshot by both men brought on massive cheers from the crowd, we were all hoping for a knockout from one of these fighters but they took it the full 12 rounds and gave he judges the final decision.

118 – 110, 116 – 112, 116-112 the judges decision was final and it was Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather who retained his unbeaten record 48-0 and became the Unified Welterweight Champion, much to the dissapointment of Pacquiao who thought he won it.

It was an entertaining morning and yes the hype was real, when the history books are written I can say I watched The Fight of the Century :-D.
