A Messi Affair

What a great weekend for Africa in the World Cup….

Day 10 –  saw the Argentinians take on Iran in what was expected to be a thrashing but Queiroz men parked the bus and defended for their lives hoping for a draw. With the half time stats showing 73% ball possesion to Agentina it just shows the attack was on but then again do not take anything away from Iran’s defence.

It took 91 minutes for the little football maestro they call Messi to score a beautiful curler, many teams are scoring more than one goal I guess Argentina are waiting to peak at the right time and unleash the blue see of goals in the next round.

With the final score 1 – 0 I certainly hope they light up the next round….

…with the German machine’s thrashing of Portugal many were putting them up there to win this World Cup but Ghana definitely put a spanner in the works with a fantastic peformance. We could’ve watched this game all night, Prince vs Prince even the two brothers playing for opposite sides said they would fight to the death…and it showed in this game with blood flowing from  Müller at the end after a nasty clash of heads.

This was certainly one of the most entertaining games so far and we have seen many, with it being winter and flu season in South Africa we did not even want to sneeze because that one ACHOO and we might miss a goal.

With this draw it is set up nicely for Ghana to go through lets see what happens in the Portugal vs USA game though, but for Germany it took them one step KLOSE to the last 16. Final score 2-2

The next game saw the Super Eagles line up against Bosnia and Herzegovina

With poor refereeing deyning Dzeko a goal where it was clearly not offside and Nigeria taking advantage through a nice goal from Odemwingie, another controversial goal though but this time the referee got it right.

Too many Vics in this team but still no Victory for Bosnia and  Herzegovina, lets hope the Super Eagles will soar into the last 16. – Final score 1-0 to Nigeria.

Day 11 – After the excitement of the night before, the game between Belgium and Russia was a boring affair, I guess the Bulgarians were too under pressure to perform with the King and Queen watching, even the fans were sleeping. I was expecting Russia to perform well seeing that they hosting the next World Cup. Good thing Belgium won 1-0 though imagine Russia vs Boznia, the commentator will have a nightmare game pronouncing all those Kov’s and Vic’s hahaha

The next game was certainly not boring as France…uh I mean Algeria took on South Korea.

With Algeria being  linked to French legend Zidane and current striker Benzema through parents nationalities,  can you blame me for thinking France has two teams in this World Cup.

A 6 goal thriller with Algeria showing why they are Africa’s number 1 team, 3 goals in the first half.

This did not stop them Ho’s from coming and scoring a goal from their first shot in the second half. (Sorry bad/sic joke).

Algeria replied with another goal in the second half though making the final score 4-2. Is this the African team that will make us proud? Only time will tell as we get closer to the crucial stage of the World Cup.

If Portugal lose tonight against USA, they are OUT! If America win, they will progress to the Round of 16 – This is the connotations, setting up and exciting encounter. Can Ronaldo save his team from further embarrassment?

God Save This Team…

A do or die encounter between England and Uruguay, I was backing England but it was not to be as the villian of 2010 strikes again this time with the help of his Liverpool teammate captain fantastic Stevie G.

Confused??? Ok let me take you out your misery Suarez scored two fantastic goal, being a doubtful starter with a knee injury, his second goal coming from a nice header from Steven Gerrard…mistake or not, it will still be a talking point at Liverpool pre season training.

One good thing that came out of this game was Rooney finally getting his World Cup goal. At this point I was getting excited for an England comeback but it was not to be…..even God could not save this team.

Maybe its the weather though with the England team complaining of the heat in there first game in Manaus…seeing that we going to Russia in 2018 this might be their year the youngsters are looking good though.

The final score 2-1 Uruguay breaking England Fans Harts.

Day 9 saw the Greek Gods favour Ivory Coast as Greece drew 0-0 against Japan, could this be our African team in the Last 16…the game between Ivory Coast vs Greece is going to be exciting.

The English were hoping for an Italian win but the Costa Ricans put the nail in the coffin with a 1-0 win over Italy in the group of death.

It was too little to late for the Swiss army as the French revolution literally slaughtered them with a 5-2 thrashing.

It could have been worse as Benzema missed a penalty and got a goal dissallowed when the referee blew the whistle after extra time.

This was an one of the most exciting game of this World Cup so far an all out attacking game final stats France 22 shots vs Switzerland 17 shots.

Benzema was on top form lets see them in the next round, this is a totally different team to the one that played in South Africa 2010.

Honduras 1 vs Ecuador 2  -With Valencia’s Ecuador taking on Honduras they won with 2 goals from the wrong Valencia on the scoresheet, yes I am a United fan so sue me :-D….but if that one bra from Honduras scored another one it could’ve been COSTLY.

Now we looking foward to Ghana taking on the German Machine….Africa Unite 😉

Swan SONG

Day 7 of the 2014 Fifa World Cup will be remembered for that nasty elbow from Song but most of all for the exit of Espana, 2010 World Champs.

In my previous post I made the prediction of 2-1 to South Korea…luckily im not a betting man because it was a draw 1-1 between Russia and South Korea.

With Robben and Van Persie on your team you are bound to score goals and with 5 goals against former World Champs Spain this was a game we were all looking forward to.

This was not an easy game though against the Socceroos with Tim Cahill scoring a cracker, it could be a potential goal of the tournament. Pity the next game will be their last game of this tournamant after losing 3-2 to Oranje, once again Van Persie on the scoresheet. As a United fan I am looking forward to the next English Premier League season welcome Louis Van Gaal :-D.

I think Spain are officially the ‘Slaansake’ of this World Cup going down 2-0 to a more vibrant Chile side, they were hungry to win.

With a potential bonus of 7.5 million bonus per player if they won the World Cup again, this did not even help with the lacklustre performance of the Spanish players, there passing game was missing, I think they need to rebuild and focus on the youth, the substitutes on paper looked like another first team hope we see more in their last game.

I don’t know why it was a surprise though I mean Bafana beat them in a friendly, I guess the sangoma’s cursed them seeing that Bafana could not qaulify.

Will the real La Rocha please stand up? – Chile definitely put their name in the pot to go far in this tournament. Welldone to Netherlands and Chile, The first 2 teams in the last 16.

Day 8 saw the The Indomitable Lions take on Croatia another team with tired legs and minds this was Etoooo much for them with Croatia beating them 4-0.

A tough encounter with blood floowing looked like Modrić just got out of the EFC Hexagon after the game with his bloody nose. That nasty Elbow from Song on Mandzukic would definitly get him a title shot in the EFC :-D.

We say farewell to our first African Team to exit the World Cup not a good way to go out though lets make the last game a better Song.

Another African team to lose was The Elephants from Ivory Coast with Drogba looking to be the first player to score in 3 World Cups it was not to be though but Gervinho scored a brilliant individual goal.

Apparently there is a player from Ivory coast who is faster than Usain Bolt over 50 metres -What BOLLY is that, this I want to see, can we organise this race please :-D.

The final score 2-1 to Columbia with 3 goals in the space of 9 minutes 63, 70 and 73rd minute respectively.

Ivory Coast still has a chance to go to the last 16, we are hoping the African Sagoma’s can beat the powers of the Greek Gods.

With the next game on the cards from the group of death we see United vs Liverpool, Uruguay vs England, Rooney vs Suarez who will come on top?

England fans would be upset Howard Webb  is not the referee in this game though but it looks promising, a do or die encounter I am actually hoping England win, no predictions though I’ll leave that to the pro’s…

Adios Espana

Wave our Flags

So it is day six at the 2014 Soccer World Cup and we have seen all the teams play their first game, what a spectacular display of football we have seen thus far with an average of 3 goals a game and still plenty more to come.

Day 5 saw the first draw of the World Cup between Nigeria  and Iran, Fikile Mabula the South African Minister of Sport and company would have had a close eye on this match as rumours are running wild that one of the coaches would be considered for the Bafana job…luckily none of them were a bunch of losers on the day. We will have to wait another day to see who it will be, will it be Mr Super Eagle himself – Stephen Keshi or Peri-Peri Hoender Carlos Queiroz ?

The 2014 already saw some interesting 2010 grudge matches and the Ghana vs USA was another with all eyes on The Black Stars to see if they could keep the African flag flying high but it was not to be as the 50 Stars of USA thumped them in a 2-1 win with the fastest goal of the tournament so far being scored. This was the same score that knocked USA out of the last 16 four years ago.

Day 6: The two dark horses of the tournament Belgium vs Algeria, on paper the Belgium team looks promising and seems like Harzard and Kompany could go all the way with coming from behind to win  2-1,  a positive for Algeria though at least they scored at this tournament improving on the last World Cup where they failed to net a goal even though it was a penalty.

Brazil played their second game of the tournament and were frustrated by a tough display by the Mexicans, come on you didn’t think that it was going to be an easy ride did you. Mexicans are known for strong chillies and that goalkeeper was on fire, wow a definite match saving performance…give him the golden glove already ARIBA ARIBA :-D. The final score 0-0 with Cameroon next it should be an awesome final group stage game, come on Africa lets unite and lets boot them out the first round hahahaha.

Wait no rather not with Ross Kemp revealing Brazil as home to the most notorious gangs would you really want to beat Brazil on home soil?

With a few minutes away to the last two teams to show what they have to offer on the World Cup stage we will see Russia face off against the fast paced Korea Republic…..seeing that we saw all the other teams I think we can start betting on a winner, I’ll start with this game and say Korea will win 2-1.

Who are you betting on to win this tournament, we have seen some amazing games so far and it can only get better so lets continue to

WAVE OUR FLAGS 😉

Back to the Future

These were the scenes on that fateful day when thousands of black students protested against the Bantu Education system wanting them to be taught in Afrikaans we salute and remember these youth for believing in a cause and standing up for this no matter what the consequences.

image

The Soweto Uprising, also known
as 16 June , is a series of protests led by high school students in South Africa that began on the morning of 16 June 1976. Students from numerous Sowetan schools began to protest in the streets of Soweto in response to the introduction of Afrikaans as
the medium of instruction in local schools. An estimated 20,000 students took part in the protests. The number of people who died is usually given as 176, with estimates of up to 700. 16 June is now a public holiday, Youth Day, in South Africa, in remembrance of the events of 1976.
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soweto_uprising

Jump forward 38 years since then 16 June 2014 our youth are faced with different if not in a way similiar circumstances, we are still fighting for kids in some areas to be taught in their native tongue. The youth are caught up in the social ills of society such as drug, alcohol, sexual abuse and gangsterism. Kids not even out of school yet are writing exams heavily pregnant, yes you could see this as comendable in a sense that they want to complete their education but it could have been avoided with the right guidance.

Education is key, Knowledge is power this is all well and good but with an education system which condones a 33.3% pass rate it is sad to see our youth accepting this and being happy to scrape through Matric. The matric certificate has become just a peice of paper as we still have so many youth that are unemployed.

@vuyisaq: Long term youth unemployment has greater economic impact and long term national fiscal problems (tax collection, poverty risk) #YouthDebate”

What has the youth of 76 really fought for?

I am not one for blaming anyone but someone is at fault and I do not think it is the teachers, I feel the parents should teach and encourage children from a young age to challenge themselves to be a change and make a difference in society.

You cannot spell challenge without change – unknown

There are many positive role models to look up to but I do not want to mention or focus on them what I want to focus on is YOU, YOU as a young man and woman be a role model to youself change where you find yourself, read and ask questions be knowledgable about the past and work to change the future.

People constantly remind us that the YOUTH is the future but no chances are being given to them to prove this, maybe it is our own fault too. STOP accepting things as being a certain way because of what you see happening in your community, believe in yourself have a cause and fight for what you want.

Spiritual awareness should also be intuned into our kids,  educate them, read the bible with them, feed their souls but also encourage them to make their own decisions just make sure that the foundation laid is strong.

In the words of 3 times Survivor contestant Ozzy: “Don’t be afraid to fall”, Believe that you are strong enough to get up and try again, dream big and go for it.

Matthew 7:24-27
The Wise and Foolish Builders
24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.
25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.
26 But everyone who hears
these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand.
27 The rain came down, the
streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”

Youth of 2014 – YOU, WE are the FUTURE – remember the past but be the change to make tomorrow brighter.

June 16 1976- Soweto uprising
by MPHO GODFREY RAMOSHABA

The year is gone but history is
written.
It’s written and recorded in the
media.
To inform the youth and the future young ones.
To inform them about 16 June 1976 in Soweto- Sharpeville, Soweto uprising!
When the whole of Sharpville was covered by a black cloud.
Students walking all over the streets of Soweto,
Marching and striking against the
language policy in schools.
Striking against use of Afrikaans
language in all subjects.
During the era of apartheid
government.

June 16 1976- Soweto uprising,
The memorable day of our late
brothers and sisters of 1976.
The day in which they were shot and killed like animals.
The prominent figures in the country indeed!
Dying for their rights against white apartheid government.

June 16 1976 I still have its picture in my mind.
When our late brothers and sisters were killed like animals.
When our late brothers and sisters struggled for freedom.
Freedom that we have today.

June 16 1976 it is gone,
But I still commemorate the day June 16, Youth Day
The memorable day of victims of June 16 1976 Soweto Uprising.
A day to recall Hector Peterson a 12 year old boy.
An international icon of South
African’s struggle for freedom,When he was shot dead by cops during a school strike.

June 16 1976, this is the year of our late heroes and heroines of 1976.
Our late heroes- our late heroines of 16 June1976,
Who fought for freedom we have today.
Freedom that youth of today have.
And the right to use mother
language as the first language.
I will always respect and
commemorate every 16 June.
The important day for every youth to commemorate.
Celebrate the day in the memory of our freedom fighters.
The freedom fighters of 16 June
1976.
June 16 we will always commemorate the day.
June 16 1976 I will always recall the day.

Take Five

Okay so we just witnessed another massacre of one of the favourites at Brazil 2014 but just like the heat in Brazil I think we need to take five and reflect on what happened on the field over the last 2 Days.

With the humidity in the Amazon jungle threatening to introduce the new cooling break rule at this World Cup, we saw some amazing football between England vs Italy even saw an Anaconda…o no wait it was Baliotelli, who scored by the way, not only on the field but also off the field with the announcement of his engagement.

Liverpool and United Fans were one, all behind England. It looked to be a STERLING performance with Sturridge getting on the score sheet from a Rooney cross but this was not enough to win the game. The Italian ‘Not so young’ Stallion Pirlo lead Italy to a 2-1 Victory over England.

They say the Amazon jungle has 100 ways to kill you…and losing on the football pitch could be added as number 101 with the England physio being stretched off the pitch, hope he is ok what a bizarre incident.

I do not have much to say about the Ivory Coast vs Japan game so I’ll make this quick like a karate chop wataaaa Ivory Coast won 2-1. We have our first African Win :-D..pity the game was broadcast at 3am SA time. These games are so late even the commentaters went to sleep.

Day 4 Saw Switzerland slice through Ecuador like fine gourmet swiss cheese with a 2-1 victory.

France vs Honduras saw the new goal line technology being used when Benzema’s goal was pushed over the line by the Honduras goalkeeper for an own goal….this made me question, Can you win the golden boot on own goals?. No shock though with France coming away victors at 3-0.

A shock though was Bosnia and Herzegovina holding their own against Argentina. The World Cup debutants did not disappoint even though losing 2-1 after a cracking goal from Messi who did not look at full form, think he needs to lay off the Lays abit and focus we expecting him to light up this World Cup -no pressure :-D.

The German Machine vs Ronaldo uh I mean Portugal I guess the pressure was to much for Ronaldo’s team with one player showing his small PEPE to the world with a headbutt hahaha. The first hatrick of the tournament could this be another golden boot tournament for Müller with the final score 4-0 to Germany.

The focus now switches to our other African hopefuls Nigeria and Ghana.

Waka Waka Iafrica

My Father When I Was…

Today we praise the fathers all over the world who educate, motivate and encourage their children to dream and pursue those dreams. We acknowledge the fathers who stand by their children even though circumstances , whatever that may be, do not allow them to be with their children on a daily basis. To the Fathers who stepped in where others left and took the role as Dad for another mans child we say Thank you.

image

A dad is seen as a protector, as a strong person who is the head of the household, the person who provides for his family not only financially but in his own unique way emotionally too in terms of dicipline. A dad is often seen as the strict parent the one we are afraid of but more often than not we are proud to call them our Daddy, I know I am 😀

Daddy
You know how much I love you
I need you forever
I ‘ll stay by your side
Daddy oh Daddy

I want always bliss you
But I never stop trying
to be your number one
You understand me….
You teach me how to pray..
And you play the game I love to play

I have no fear here when you are near
You guide me through the dark is night
I love you Daddy…
You are my hero (and you always in my dream)

I love you daddy oh daddy
You are my superstar

Daddy
You know how much I love you
I want you to help me
Please show me the way
Daddy oh Daddy
Sometimes I might do wrong
But I never stop trying
To be your number one
I wanna show you
I’ll be as strong as you
When I grow up I still look up to you
So have no fear here I believe here
I will be my daddy’s boy

I love you Daddy…
You are my hero (and you always in
my dream)
I love you daddy oh daddy
You are my superstar
2x

The one in a million and a million in one
Forever I want to be by your side
You’re in a million
Show me the way
Guide me through my night – Ricardo and Friends.

We often don’t realise what a special person we have until we lost them therefore we need to appreciate each and every moment we have with our loved ones. With that being said the qoute below so perfectly depicts how some of us if not all of us, feel about our dads…

When I was: Four years old: My
daddy can do anything.
When I was: Five years old: My daddy knows a whole lot.
When I was: Six years old:
My dad is smarter than your dad.
When I was: Eight years old: My dad doesn’t know exactly everything.
When I was: 10 years old: In the
olden days, when my dad grew up, things were sure different. When I was: 12 years old: Oh, well, naturally, Dad doesn’t know
anything about that. He is too old to remember his childhood. When I was: 14 years old: Don’t pay any attention to my dad. He is so old- fashioned.
When I was: 21 years old:
Him? He’s hopelessly out of date.
When I was: 25 years old: Dad knows about it, but then he should, because he has been around so long.
When I was: 30 years old: Maybe we should ask Dad what he thinks. After all, he’s had a lot of experience.
When I was: 35 years old: I’m not doing a single thing until I talk to Dad.
When I was: 40 years old: I wonder how Dad would have handled it? He was so wise.
When I was: 50 years old: I’d give anything if Dad were here now so I could talk this over with him. Too bad I didn’t appreciate how smart he was. I could have learned a lot
from him. Ann Landers

Lastly to those who do not know there dads personally or whose fathers have past on, know that they are looking down on you from heaven and are proud of what and who you have become.
We also all have one Father in common and need to give thanks to him each and everyday for the blessings he bestows upon us, the unseen hand that holds us and guides us on the winding paths that is called LIFE.

Matthew 6 vs 9 “This, then, is how you should
pray:
“‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name…,”
