Fallen Angel

How important it is for us to

Marguerite Ann Johnson ; April4,
1928 – May 28, 2014) was an
American author and poet.

She was a remarkable woman who faced many adversities in the years of black oppression but through her work has the power to inspire many. She showed that it does not matter where you came from or how bad your circumstances are there is always a way out, you just have to believe in yourself.

You will notice the intensity of her circumstances in the poem ‘Still I Rise’ – sad poem but at the same time inspirational.

She was active in the Civil Rights movement , and worked with Martin Luther King, Jr. and Malcolm X, both great men in there own right fighting for freedom. You will notice the deeper sense of her fight for freedom in the poem ‘I know why a caged bird sings’ this is also the name of her first autobiography.

The Full Springbok Experience


Walking through the tunnel the nerves are set, you can hear the crowd going wild outside waiting for the game to start. This is everything you worked for all the sweat and tears led to this are you ready for the full….


This is one experience you will not easily forget it is both informative and interactive testing both physical and mental ability, if you a rugby supporter which many of South Africans are, you will love this walk through the legends of the South African game.


Rugby in this country is huge bringing people from all walks of life together as one Nation, Have you ever gone to a game at Newlands? The atmosphere is electric people cheering their team on, it doesn’t matter if you support the Bokke or not when the National Anthem is sung everyone sings together as one Nation

In 1995 South Africa became the World Cup Champions, Madiba and Francois Pienaar shaking hands after the game brought the nation to a stand still a year after we became a Democratic Nation.- There is nothing like abit of Madiba Magic to lift our spirits


The Springboks defeated the mighty All Blacks 15–12 in the final on home soil.

South Africa regained their title as champions 12 years later, when they defeated England 15–6 in the 2007 final


With all the controversy in the game regarding team selections and the brutal fans booing the team if they do bad you have to  not only be physically but mentally fit to become a true champion facing criticism from both the media and the fans.

All sports heroes come from different backgrounds and they need to respect this remember there grassroots, playing rugby in the streets and appreciate the effort it took to get where they are. Everytime they put on that Green and Gold jersey it is not for themselves, it is for the nation no pressure….


Hmmmm seems like we have a new candidate to take on the challenge of becoming a Springbok…


3 different fitness challenges that test you to the max tracking your progress with the coach motivating you on all the way giving you that edge to make it on the team…


Come on you can do it, push it we looking for the best no quitting…


Welldone you made it on the team but unfortunatly not everyone….


..was that lucky at least you can come on as a super sub as an impact player.

I geuss he has big boots to fill No pressure the Nation is behind us and ofcourse we still believe in that…

There is only One Direction

Let me tell you a little STORY OF MY LIFE….

It was a December holiday when I met DIANA, damn this girl got me UP ALL NIGHT, what a SUMMER LOVE that was.

From the moment I met her I knew we were onto SOMETHING GREAT…seeing her in that LITTLE BLACK DRESS, the things going through my mind was “I WISH, no I WANT to KISS YOU”. Little did I know that by the end of the night I WOULD and that it would be our LAST FIRST KISS.

I walked over to her THROUGH THE DARK telling myself be STRONG, DON’T FORGET WHERE YOU BELONG but ONE WAY OR ANOTHER this girl has to be mine RIGHT NOW.

She was TAKEN by my charm, I told her baby if I wrote a dictionary I’d put YOU & I  together, she replied with ahhhh please don’t TELL ME A LIE. I asked her darling WHAT MAKES YOU BEAUTIFUL shhhh don’t answer I have something BETTER THAN WORDS, I kissed her and I know in her mind it was like THE BEST SONG ever. 

Ahhh those are the MOMENTS we live for, if there is ONE THING I learnt from this experience it is to LIVE WHILE WE YOUNG, don’t fret over the LITTLE THINGS, STAND UP for yourself because no one else is going to come BACK FOR YOU than yourself.

Its GOTTA BE YOU and only you that can make this story end HAPPILY, MORE THAN THIS I cannot say.

If I could do this all OVER AGAIN I would just go back to sleep as this was all just…….


Oscar Trial and Error

It is almost 2 years since that tragic Valentines Day ‘accident’ and no there was no baby in the mix get your mind out the gutters, I’m talking about the Oscar Trial….yeah I know it has been going on too long right.

I feel sorry for the family of Reeva Steenkamp having to sit through the court proceedings listening to all accounts of what happened that night when only Oscar knows but apparently he is mad…


Gerrie Nel and Barry Roux have become household names, this case will probably be used in future law lectures ahhhh im glad Im not a lawyer imagine sitting through that lecture WHAT???? This case is on like day 39 not even Survivor is that long man.

This is like an episode of Days of our lives or better yet 7de Laan but just the twists are not that predictable though, come on you had to see that coming didn’t ‘I put it to you’ that Neville was coming back from the ‘dead’.

This case made me realise I never want to end up in court one day imagine having to remember what happened a year ago, I still don’t know what I did last summer let alone last night I would probably also need acting lessons for something like this….but one thing is for certain they are really going in depth to find the truth  taking the saying ‘innocent until proven guilty’ to the  next level.

At one point it was said that these lawyers get paid by the minute yoh another reason I do not want to end up in court, that is drinking money oops now you know why I don’t remember what happened last summer.

Sometimes we idolise sports people to much and forget to realise that they are also human just look at Armstrong shocking the world in the doping scandal after winning all those Tour de France and now look at this, Oscar was a hero on the athletics field, the first double amputee to compete in the able bodied Olympics for something this tragic to happen.

To me yes this is a high profile case but we do not need to know all the details take into consideration the people involved, all we need to know is, is he guilty or not case closed thank you very much we can move on with our lives now.

But Noooo the door needs to be analysed in public an interpreter needs to be brought in who doesn’t even understand himself, ballistics reports, re-enacments need to be done, apparently it was a full moon on that night so we have to wait for another full moon to get the exact lighting no ways man at the rate this is going gaan ek ok mal speel.

My lady can we please get an answer soon as Dewani is also waiting to be heard…


King of ‘Koesister’ Hill

Yesterday was Mothers Day and also the annual Jive Slave Route Challenge taking you through the beautiful historic landmarks Cape Town has to offer….and what a challenge it was.


From a half marathon, 10km Run, 5km fun run/walk to a 10km Big Walk all meandering through the streets of Cape Town, if you thought Cape Town streets were straight think again this race will make you realize Hills are a killer especially the dreaded ‘Koesister Hill’…but well worth it.

I opted for the 10km Run my third attempt and loved each and every experience as you meet new people each time.


Running through the Castle of GoodHope, stopping as we have to file like slaves through the dungeons…I hear someone say “In this race they will probably break the record for the slowest first km” hahaha.

Another highlight was when I tried motivating another runner by telling him only one more hill but the expression on his face was classic when we turned the corner and saw what a hill that was, but we made it.

You may pray to God to remove the hills on your way and fill

Running takes you places you never imagined you get to breath in the fresh morning air, watch the sun rise as your blood is pumping with adrenaline and excitement from feeding off the positive energy of the people around you, motivating you to push yourself harder and further testing your limit.

Oscar from Joe Barber even came to cheer us on, ya ek sien vir jou maar waar David dan o ya en se vir Washeela die Koesisters daar innie Bo Kaap was leka.

There are many sites you will see during this race so to fully appreciate it I would probably recommend doing the 10km Big Walk with the family, take the kids and show them there roots. You will even get to shake it to the sounds of the Klopse in the Company Gardens, they gave me that extra motivation to run faster, loved it.

Thank you to all the staff who made this race possible this was my 3rd time and will definitely be back maybe even try the Half Marathon who knows… all the runners we made it we can call ourselves…

We live in a society where woman are disrespected this is disgusting as it puts the ‘Real Men’ in a bad light so I’d like to say Happy Mothers Day to the single moms too this is one tough job but your love for your child is what gets you through and this is admirable. O what a Night late December back in 69….Ok I might not be that old but I do remember the 8 May 2014, the day I got the opportunity to pay tribute to those iconic music legends who will through their music be FOREVER YOUNG.

With Ozzy Osbourne as your host you know you going to have a ROCKING mad time.

Ariba Ariba alale lamba shaking in our boots as Richie Valens delivers this crazy song ofcourse with my “so called” mexican blood (not true think its the moustache haha) I had to sing along especially when the Ariba part came in.

Louis Armstrong seeing blue skies and nope not the first man on the moons brother…ahhhh this is one that everyone knows, young or old your parents must have this LP.

New York New York yip what is a tribute show without Mr Frank Sinatra jazz legend himself.

The King of Pop and Rock and no not Micheal I’m talking about Mr blue suede shoes himself Elvis “Rock and Roll” Presley wowed us with his funky outfit.

The lights dimmed and then on it came with all the glits and glam whom do we see, It’s that iconic white dress ahhh you guessed it diamonds are a girls best friend and if I lived in that era I’d buy Marylin Monroe all the diamonds her heart desires.

Mariam Makeba and Brenda Fassie both made an appearance this got the crowd beating their feet to the quasa quasa Ma Brrrrrrr in da house – doing it for South Africa.

Ahhh ahhh ahhh with shows like these through real music, legends will STAY ALIVE topping the charts is the Bee Gees ahhh ahhh ahhh staying alive.

James Brown almost broke his knees giving us one of his best performances and yes this is a mans world but it would be nothing, nothing without a women or a girl because they are simply irresistible and I’m addicted to love, Baby come on let me light your fire and let’s Imagine just like John Lennon.

Even the diva herself made an appearance Whitney Housten bringing with her Amy Winehouse who didn’t want to go to rehab.

The show must go on yes you are right Freddy Mercury….

…and what a show it was, all the legends were portrayed to perfection, the band was on point. Loved the guitar and saxophone solo’s, live shows are the best and The Barnyard Theatre is the perfect setting for such an amazing show.

Every Vote Counts

After many months of campaigning the day has finally arrived for South Africa to go to the polls.

The voting process is a simple 5 step process
1.Get your ID scanned
2.Get your name ticked of the register
3.Get your ID and thumb stamped and inked
4. Receive 2 ballot papers (National and Provincial)
5. Cast your vote and place firmly in box

This simple 5 step process for me personally took about 5 minutes for some it took up to an hour but either way the excitement and eagerness shown by South Africans was inspiring as each person has there own reason for whomever they are voting. There are many parties to vote for, some I only saw for the first time in the voting booth but I’m sure they will get votes, if not the party leader will vote for their own party right 😀

Each vote counts it is our right, a right that many of our predecessors did not have, they fought for our freedom of choice, and even if you decide not to exercise this choice it still counts. THIS IS YOUR CHOICE

This is my second time voting, as a 26 year old I do not consider myself as a political individual but I have the experience of hearing my family speak and reading what is written in the papers to make and informed choice.

For the first time voters it was an exciting experience to be part of the decision making in our beautiful country. With great power comes great responsibilty, we all vote in the hope that the party chosen will take into consideration our needs and deliver on the promises made in their campaign.

20 years of democracy there have been many highlights but there are still youth who are unemployed and this is the reason some of them have considered not voting.

With social media on such a high everyone are posting “ThumbSelfies” on twitter, facebook, instagram and whatever other platform there is, this has become a popularity contest whose thumb looks best…..taking thumb wars to the next level haha.

With the clock ticking to the cut off time for voting, South Africa will wait patiently as our votes are counted and the results delivered, we might be suprised or we might not, all I know is that my vote was cast and I pray for a better brighter South Africa for all.

07 May 2014 South Africa goes to the Polls to have their say in what party runs the country for the next 5 years.

We have come far as a nation celebrating 20 years of democracy. I am 26 years old from Cape Town, South Africa. In the 20 years since that first elections when the honourable Nelson Mandela was inaugarated as South Africa’s president we have seen many changes.

We have seen a Nation united by sport, The Bokke lifting 2 World Cup Trophies, The Protea’s becoming No.1 Test team in the ICC rankings..and Bafana uh well they have been called a bunch of losers by our own Minister of Sport.

South Africa hosted the Rugby World Cup where we lifted the Trophy on home soil, and the Nation went crazy when Shabalala scored the first cracker at the 2010 World Cup, sport really can build a nation  but this is only temporary.

On the other side of the coin we have seen the rand drop to an all time low, petrol prices soar to an all time high and poo being thrown at our local government leaders for lack of service delivery.

The education system is in shambles books are not being distributed properly, the pass rates are being dropped but we are still celebrating the successes of 100% pass rates at some schools where at others none of the matriculants are passsing.

The country and the world mourned together on the passing of our hero Nelson Mandela again coming together as one Nation, but then they also boo’d our president Zuma while the world was watching.

In the months running up to the elections many political parties were rallying for votes with the DA taking on the WWE approach with fireworks and loud music in their campaign – as seen on Late Nite News with Loyiso Gola and the political analysist Mr Chester Missing (a puppet but don’t say I said that).

The ANC taking flack for the Nkandla fiasco but still they have there loyal supporters filling stadiums better than our local soccer teams.

These are the two main parties in my opinion because all you hear in the media is ANC this and DA that all promising change and throwing blows at each other like a boxing match. They even had adverts banned, some would call those low blows.

There is a raising star in the midst in the form of loud mouth Julias Malema telling the DA and ANC to EFF off, is this really the change our country needs…well you have the power by casting your vote on Wednesday.

There are many youngsters voting for the first time but by the looks of it these people are confused as to who to vote for with the media saying that this years elections might have the lowest turnout in years. Some “Bornfrees” are even saying that they won’t vote in order to take a stand. I do not know how this will work though but we are living in a land of freedom of choice, as the youth we should have a voice in parlaiment I mean people don’t live forever so we are the future, but with these politics I don’t blame them I mean how do you COPE with such stress.

In our countries defence we are a young democracy 20 years old if you think in terms of this, what 20 year old really knows what they want in life there has been many successes and many lows but we are building a nation we should not focus on the negative but more on the positive unfortunately this is not what the media tells us.

Time for change is now you have the power cast your vote make a difference even if the only thing motivating you to vote is the FREE coffee at wimpy.
